Borewells for Drinking Water in Andhra Pradesh

Sri K. Pitchi Reddy Educational and Welfare Society (SPREAWS), Vempalli, Andhra Pradesh

Contact: Mr. C.S. Sajid Hussain

Dates: November 2021 – October 2022

Total Budget: Rs. 3,50,885

2021 Budget: Rs. 3,50,885

SPREAWS installed 3 hand-pump bore-wells, one in each of 3 remote and hilly villages in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The three selected villages are very backward and lacked drinking water facilities, requiring poor people (usually women and children) to walk 2-3 miles per trip to fetch water from a river or an open well. Providing sustainable drinking water facilities to this community will not only improve health and economic conditions, but also help many young girls and boys to attend school more regularly.

As a complement to providing access to good drinking water, health workers are making the villagers become aware of the better health practices in daily lives to avoid various water-borne and food-borne diseases.
