SPREAWS Andhra Pradesh COVID-19 Relief

Sri K. Pitchi Reddy Educational and Welfare Society (SPREAWS); Andhra Pradesh

2020 Covid-19 Relief Grant: $2000

2021 Covid-19 Relief Grant: $2500

In 2020, during the first COVID wave, SPREAWS used PPI’s grant to prepare and distribute relief kits to families of 100 unemployed daily wage workers in Kadapa district. The kits contained food items (rice, wheat flour, dal, sugar, salt, cooking oil, spices, vegetables, and fruit) as well as soap and masks.

In 2021, during the second wave, the Andhra Pradesh government imposed a curfew with lockdown-like restrictions. The worst victims of this Lockdown were daily wage workers such as construction workers, workers in retail stores, factory workers, hotel workers, street vendors, agricultural laborers, auto drivers and rickshaw pullers etc. They were not able to buy food essentials like rice, pulses, as well as hygiene items, due to financial constraints. SPREAWS selected 110 such poor families and helped them with essentials commodities like rice, dal, cooking oil, sugar, salt, vegetables, masks, soap, sanitizer, as emergency relief with the funding received from PPI.  In addition to the distribution of essential supplies, SPREAWS also conducted an awareness campaign in the target villages, to educate people on how to effectively prevent the corona virus infection.
