Continuing Drought Mitigation in Bundelkhand
Gramin Vikas Vigyan Samiti (GRAVIS), Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Contact: Dr. Prakash Tyagi
Dates: June 2024 – May 2027
Total Budget: Rs. 19,50,000
2025 Funding: Rs.6,50,000 ($7,831)
This project extends GRAVIS’s efforts to foster community development and improve agriculture in the drought-prone Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh to three new villages. GRAVIS has organized village development committees and women’s self-help groups in each village, providing initial training to get them under way. They have also conducted classes on nutrition and water quality. In the first year they constructed ten compost pits and prepared the ground for ten
nutrition gardens, which were planted in this year’s monsoon season. In addition, they have built fences around four farm plots to protect the crops and low dikes around four others for water retention, renovated a farm pond, and established a community seed bank. These activities will continue in the coming years.
