Sustainable Farming for Tribal Farmers
Dr. M. L. Dhawale Memorial Homoeopathic Institute (MLDMHI), Thane, Maharashtra
Contact: Ms. Ujjwala Pendse
October 2016 – October 2018
Budget: Rs.10,30,000
The goal of this project has been to promote methods of small–plot farming that are both sustainable and economically viable, focusing on organic fruit and vegetable production. MLDMHI initially enrolled 32 farmers from 3 villages; 19 of these are still active in the project and 6 others have been added. Supporting activities have included exposure visits to working farms and workshops on improved methods. Crop production has done well, with sales this year doubling those of last year. However, establishing stable marketing arrangements and increasing the commitment of the farmers to the new methods remain areas where more progress is still needed.
